Profile

Dr Rebecca Shine is a fully trained Robotic Colorectal surgeon having completed the Advanced Colorectal Robotic surgery fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cance Centre. This technique offers precision surgery with improved views & dexterity.

She offers laparoscopic or robotic colectomy/proctectomy, robotic ventral rectopexy for prolapse and laparoscopic or robotic hernia repairs.

She provides comprehensive care for colon and rectal cancer, including diagnosis, work-up, and management. Her services also include endoscopy (colonoscopy and gastroscopy), treatment of pelvic floor disorders (incontinence, disordered defecation, and prolapse), inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, and anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fistulas, and fissures. She also performs laparoscopic cholecystectomy, as well as hernia repair using laparoscopic, robotic, or open techniques (including inguinal, incisional, and ventral hernias).

Rebecca was raised in rural Auckland and completed her medical degree at the University of Auckland in 2010.  She completed her general surgical training throughout New Zealand and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2018. She was awarded a fellowship position in Melbourne and completed two years of subspecialist colorectal training including advanced laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy and all aspects of colorectal cancer. In 2025 she has embarked on a further 6 months of training at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute doing their Advanced Colorectal Robotic Surgery Fellowship.

Rebecca also enjoys training and mentoring younger surgeons and is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery (ANZTBCRS), Deputy Chair of the Colon and Rectal section, a member on the RACS robotic surgery working group and an instructor for the RACS surgical skills courses.

Outside of her professional life Rebecca enjoys trail-running, mountain biking and any ski sports.
