Profile

Prashant Sharma is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Otago.

He obtained his Fellowship in General Surgery in 2012 in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Following this he undertook subspeciality training in Colorectal Surgery through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).  He did his fellowship at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, and at Western Hospital in Melbourne.

Prashant is a specialist in Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Abdominal surgery and has a special interest in Trans-Anal Minimally Invasive procedures (TAMIS).  This includes an interest in performing Rectal Resection Transanally (TaTME – Trans-anal TME).

He also has an interest in Laparoscopic Hernia surgery and anorectal conditions including Fistula, Abscesses, and Hemorrhoids).  He is currently engaged in a Masters Programme with research in Diverticular Disease and Diverticulitis.
